Being a good father to your children really starts by being a good husband to your wife. Get involved with the prenatal process. You must be stable in your marriage to give your children a good home and plenty of love throughout the family. Your children need a stable home to live in.
After your baby is born, things may be different, but you can still do many things just the same. Give yourself a couple of weeks with your baby and then start getting into your normal routine. Babies can travel even with you since we have modern day products for the baby to be right with you, Also, give mom a chance to rest by you taking over the care of the baby and at the same time bonding with your baby, Mom really needs time to herself. She needs to take naps to rejuvenate strength.
You can even help with feeding your baby. After mommy has fed the baby, you get the job of burping the baby. Make sure you have a burp cloth over your shoulder. While the little one is still waking up for feeding in the night, you can still be the one to burp him. Yes, dad, you need to get up too!
Also, help with changing those dirty diapers. It really isn't that bad. Especially since nowaday we have the throwaway diapers. When I had my six children, I had gauze diapers. We had to rinse the out in the toilet and put them in a bucket to hold till they went through a washing machine. A daily chore!
It is very necessary to show love to your children. Holding them, just touching, kissing, and hugging are definite ways to show them they are loved and it gives them the feeling they are worthwhile.
Be kind in your words and actions to your child. Listen to what they have to say. Guide them and comfort them. Never be verbally cruel to them or knock them around. They need love and lots of praise to grow up having high self-esteem.
